The ELR Cadillac will have an electric propulsion system consisting of a lithium-ion T-shaped, a unit of electric drive and a 4-cylinder engine-generator. It uses electricity as its primary source to drive the car without fuel or producing tailpipe emissions. When the battery power is low, the ELR automatically switches to enable extended battery life to drive hundreds of miles further.
"The prototype has generated immediate enthusiasm," said Don Butler, vice president of marketing for Cadillac. "Like other Cadillac models highlights of the past, the ELR will offer a premiere - the combination of electric propulsion, a spectacular design and the pleasure of driving a luxury coupe. "
Cadillac chose the name to indicate the ELR electric propulsion technology of the car, in accordance with the international convention of three-letter name of the brand.
The prototype Converj has brought forth the idea of ??combining the desirability of a grand touring coupe with electrification, to emphasize Ed Welburn, vice president - global design at GM.
"Impossible to confuse the vehicle to another brand with its dynamic profile Cadillac plunging forward, a modern vision of a personal luxury 2 +2 coupe with the unique silhouette," he added Welburn.
